The Power of Five

I have a relatively big basement and thanks to the 8th Anniversary of my Wedding, a new 55" TV.  It's cold outside now, and so randomly this week four of my friends and I decided to get up at 5:45am every morning, Monday - Friday, to exercise together for about 15-20 minutes.  The rule is that we don't do cardio.  Everyone is on their own for cardio.

So every day for the past week I have gotten up at 5:30am and used the extra 15 minutes after doing my morning stuff to unload the dishwasher or change a load of laundry.  It is incredible what 75 extra minutes a week can get you.  I can clean a bathroom in 15 minutes.  It's a miracle.  This is the part where all of the people I have told for the past six years that I hate getting up early to work out start laughing at me.  What can I say?  I'm growing and evolving.

The real motivation, however, are the four women that might or might not (depending on the consistency of alarm clocks and how they are "set") show up at my front door at 6:00am.  If they show up, then we go to work lifting weights and cracking jokes (and knees, elbows and other body parts).  If they don't show up, which hasn't happened yet because we are in the honeymoon phase of this experiment, then I am already up so I may as well go ahead and pump some 10 lb weights.  Oh wait, sorry, that's Nat.  I am the 3 lb weight lifter.  Baby steps.

After they head out the door at 6:20am ready to jump on their individual treadmills, I head to my office where I complete my Power Hour before taking a shower, making my son's lunch, reading scriptures, drinking my Shakeology, and making sure that hairs and teeth are brushed.  By the time I get everyone off to school and work it is 9:00am and I have been up for 3 1/2 hours.  These days that means a cleaner kitchen.  It also means a cleaner basement because my kids know the "Ladies" are coming over to exercise.

And that, is the Power of Five.
