Family and Family and Besties...Oh My!

Every 18 months or 24 months or whenever the mood seems to strike, my extended family does a massively huge family reunion.  Usually 3/4 of us show up.  Those who don't show up live in exotic places like Hawaii and Fargo (that's in North Dakota).

In two days we are having one of these family reunions and this time 99% of the family is showing up.  Even the ones from the exotic places.  True story.  Only one in-law is missing because of work.  That means that for the first time since 1992 at our grandmother's funeral, all 14 cousins will be together.  We are 15 strong, but the oldest died in a car accident in 1990.  I am sure he will be there as well, along with grandparents and great-grandparents and any other 'rents that want to join in.  We just won't see them.

Or maybe we will - you never know about these things.

These 14 cousins come from 4 siblings.  Three of the siblings have four or more kids to help plan reunions.  One of the siblings has me.  It sure is a good thing that I am a rockstar at planning these things.  I have lists that refer to lists that refer to charts that refer to rooms in my house where things are being stored.  I have a timeline to follow and other than a glitch in locating mentos (in the checkout aisle if you must know) I am ready...set...go.

I do have a few more things to do.

Such as...

Buy some 2-liter bottles of root beer and 7-up.  Nothing but the hard stuff for this family.
Crockpot four fryer chickens
Laundry
Clean out the 5 gallon water jugs and refill them with fresh water
Set up a tent and sleeping bags for the boys to sleep in
Buy cilantro, blueberries and ranch dressing - lots of it
Take out hamburger to thaw
Take hot hot dogs to thaw

But really - that is it!  Not a lot considering what I have behind me in these preparations!

I am actually very calm about everything...although it might be the calm before the storm.

Did I mention that my best friend and her family are moving into my house on Saturday in the middle of the reunion?

I like to keep things interesting.

  1. You should really get some 2 liter Diet Cokes so you can make explosions with them and the mentos.
